Christmas presents and UFOs

For you non-knitters out there, a UFO is an UnFinished Object. Some people's UFOs have been around longer than I've been alive, let alone knitting! My own UFOs are actually WIPs (Works in Progress), which means I haven't given up on them yet--but I like saying UFO. It makes people jump.

Okay. I finished the Plum Pudding sweater mentioned below; I finished knitting a Captain America sweater for my little brother, except it turned out too small, so I'm giving it to my cousin in New York when it's sewn up, and making my brother a bigger one; I've finished several hats, three of them involving Bernat Super Saver in Lime Twist colorway (not my favorite--I got it to knit a hat for my uncle in Washington State. I've just about used it up). I've almost finished a scarf in Red Heart Super Saver, Gemstone colorway--I've just to weave in the ends (which, in Mistake Rib, is a project in and of itself). It was going to be for my aunt in Afghanistan--hi, Aunt Sandy!--but she doesn't like scarves. Which is fine, because I really didn't want to make another one for my mom, who wants one just like it. So she can have it.

I got Knitpicks Options interchangable circular needles for Christmas!!! Not the whole set--just sizes 7, 8, and 9, with a 40" cable for Magic Loop knitting so I can make hats without double-pointed needles and without sewing up. Glory glory hallelujah!
I'm already halfway through a hat for The Ships Project, which is to say for a soldier or sailor on a combat assignment somewhere. I'm using red/white/blue multicolored Red Heart Super Saver from Wal-Mart, and I love how it's working up--kind of a barber-pole effect, since the color wraps round and round the hat instead of puddling back and forth (this yarn puddles terribly on straight needles).

I can't wait to try Red Heart's Banana Berry colorway on circulars! It's a blue/green/yellow multi that looks just like the ocean off Florida on a sunny day and makes my (Floridian) mom homesick. The shading should look so gorgeous without seams!

Student (not me) Knits Own Ferrari

Isn't this wild?! A knitted Ferrari--now there's a big project. No, I am not going to make one; well, maybe a toy one. Or maybe a toy Corvette. Or a VW Beetle? My sister would love a knitted Herbie.

Well... we'll see.

Darth Vader and His Stormtrooper Orchestra

Hope this works--I just read on the logged-in screen that you can post YouTube videos to your blog, and I had to try it with this! Nothing about knitting, just one of the cutest YouTube videos I've ever seen (not that I'm hugely into YouTube, my sisters showed me this one day). Couldn't you just die?

(Note: If the sound on your computer doesn't work, as it sometimes does not on mine, they're playing the "villain theme". How cool is that?!?)

Thank goodness for Wal-mart!

Yes!!!

My local Wal-Mart has all my favorite colorways of Red Heart Super Saver! Sunshine Print, Banana Berry Print, Stars and Stripes, BonBon Print... I can't wait till I get my size-eight Knitpicks Options circs for Christmas!

I just finished a self-striping argyle scarf in Red Heart Gemstone--I'll post a picture as soon as I figure out how, I promise.

Rats!!!

I wanted to make a sweater using Red Heart Super Saver Sunshine Print, right? So yesterday I went to Hobby Lobby to get some and they're like, "Oh, we don't carry that color anymore." And they didn't have any BonBon Print either, which is this blue/pink multi I've been wanting to use for quite a while... *mopes*

I did get yarn for a great many hats for soldiers--Super Saver in Fall (muted greens and oranges), Banana Berry (blue/green/yellow, the other color I wanted to use with the Sunshine Print), and a khaki-ish multi, and TLC Essentials in Shaded Denim (which I've been wanting to try because it's more like the "digital camo" stuff the Armed Forces actually use, instead of that ubiquitous "jungle camouflage").

I'm still going to post a picture of the Sunshine Print/Banana Berry double-woven ("Darrell Waltrip") swatch, if I ever get one taken and figure out how to post it.

I Dream of Knitting...

What do I want to knit, if I ever get the yarn/pattern/something else indispensable? Well...

The ubiquitous, elusive Baby Surprise Jacket designed by Elizabeth Zimmerman, the pattern for which is very slowly making its way through the holds list at the library. I absolutely can't figure it out from the multitudinous pictures I've seen.

A largest-size Guideposts sweater in Red Heart Super Saver, striped in two yarns of different colorways--Banana Berry and Sunshine Print--using the "Darrell Waltrip" stitch pattern in the stockinette-stitch portion. (I've been swatching with leftovers from the sweaters I've already made in those colorways; I'll have to post a photograph to show how cool it looks!)

A multi-colored hat for the Ships Project on circular needles, for that extremely cool swirl-cone look. (At least one...)

An afghan based on a geometrical quilt-block pattern. (I'll probably never come up with one cool enough to make me do all that garter stitch, though. Now if only I could knit Drunkard's Path blocks...)

Introducing My UFO's (UnFinished Objects)

Besides Christmas presents (which you will see after Christmas), I'm currently knitting: the second half of a sweater for Guideposts magazine's Knit for Kids Project out of Red Heart Super Saver yarn in the rather spotty purple Plum Pudding colorway; and a pink baby bootie (the first of a pair). I'm also sewing up a formerly interminable three-yarn purple Guideposts sweater.

I'm hoping to post pictures of my best Guideposts sweaters before I send them off, and also pictures of some new stitch patterns I've been swatching.
